Teen TV fans rise

TEENS were the fastest growing age-group among Cambodia’s television viewers in the last six months, according to market research company Indochina Research Ltd (IRL). Figures from IRL’s bi-annual survey show the Kingdom’s youth-dedicated network MYTV has 11 percent of the market, up from 7 percent in the survey released in January. The driver was an increase in 15- to 19-year old viewers, rising to 32 percent from 20 percent. CTN, meanwhile, saw its market share fall to 55 percent from 62 percent. “This decrease is mainly due to the increase of MYTV,” IRL said Monday.

MYTV is a music TV that created for teenager to communicate each other through text messaging (SMS). by broadcasting music TV company could make some benefit from advertising and viewer population from text messaging. on the other hand MYTV would aim to get revenue through text messaging, if we sum up 5 cent per text messaging how much do we have for 10,000 text per day and per months?

according to our observations we can tell what happen on the screen, teenagers tend to use MYTV as their chat log, where they can trade their phone numbers, dating, flirting, looking for new friends etc. and some of them stick with the TV whole day to wait for their TV friend go online and go on date again. this is a good opportunities to mobile service company to boost their revenues. however, its will create a side effect to society as the kids skip school and take their chance to meet their unknown girlfriends or boyfriends.

Opportunities for business, if you have any products or services that target teenagers MYTV is your best advertising channel, your message will reach your target audiences fast with large volume but you might need to check ethical procedures with MYTV, because its seem MYTV tend to have less ethical responsible to what happen to those teenagers.

CONSTRUCTION has begun on the first casino to be built on the Vietnamese border in Ratanakkiri province, a project representative said Thursday.

Located 800 metres from the border, the as-yet unnamed US$3.5 million casino will aim at attracting Vietnamese and Chinese clients when doors open in a year and a half, a representative from owners Try Pheap Import Export Company said after breaking ground at the site early this week.

“This is the first development project and first casino at the O’yadao international border in Ratanakkiri,” Try Pheap company representative Bee Chivoan Dara said Thursday.

The project is slated to eventually include a residential development, a business centre, warehouses, a market, a bus station, and a garden, he said.

Officials hope the project could help Ratanakkiri make the most of a large influx of tourists coming to the province following the March 17 opening of National Road 78, which connects Ratanakkiri’s capital Banlung to the O’yadao border crossing with Vietnam.

“The road is good, and tourists are beginning to use it,” said Ratanakkiri’s Department of Tourism director Nget Pitou Thursday.

“The province has changed a lot in the last two years. We had only two hotels and five guesthouses in 2009, but now we have seven hotels and 21 guesthouses. There are many homes being built, along with roads, markets, and even more development projects are under construction.”

Future tourist arrivals to the O’yadao border area would be spurred by casino projects, said Nget Pitou.

“Building casinos in the area will help Ratanakkiri enjoy the same success as Bavet border crossing with Vietnam in the future.”

Some 42,000 tourists, including 10,000 foreigners, have visited Ratanakkiri in the year to date, he said, adding it was a 19 percent increase over the same period last year.

O’yadao border checkpoint police chief Long Rockha claimed the number of visitors traversing the crossing daily had significant increased with the opening of the new road, albeit from a very low base.

Investing in further tourist draws, like the casino, would boost the number of holidaymakers travelling to the region, he said.

“We hope it can attract more tourists every day,” he stated.

Tom91 started The Scene, but the leadership of The Scene has changed several times including .:Slayer:., Aydrian, AZUPO, Mistweaver and now ENIGMA. It is not just a motivated Editor who produces this magazine though.

The Scene has many dedicated individuals who ensure that it is always out on time and is always meeting expected standards. Writers write articles for the magazine, proofreaders make sure that everything makes sense, and GFXers make the articles look visually appealing for our audience.
