The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 19th and current FIFA World Cup, the premier international association football tournament. It is being held in South Africa, beginning on 11 June and scheduled to conclude on 11 July 2010. The tournament is the culmination of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams. As such, it matches the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with the most competing nations. The final is forecast to be among the most-watched events ever, possibly behind only the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games.

This is the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation, after South Africa defeated Morocco and Egypt in an all-African bidding process. Italy are the defending champions, after winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The draw for the finals took place on 4 December 2009 in Cape Town. (Wikipedia).

Cambodian is alway fan with football since 1988 that doesn’t count before Khmer Rogues regime, and became serious football fan from 1994. there was nothing wrong to fan with the football until sometime in 2000, Cambodian started to bet on football teams just for fun but it turned out to be a serious bets, some sold their vehicles, accessories and equipments  such as motorcycles, cars, mobile phones, Laptop computers and jewelry to get cash for bet on football tournaments. sometime later when one company called “Combo Six” started their business in Cambodia then it turned football to be a serious gamble, some people were really addicted to football bet just like they get addicted to drug. they were dare to do anything for cash to bet on football, during that period football turned Cambodia to fearsome country in term of stealing, kidnapping, robbery, cheating and other crime activities.   recently Cambodia prime minister Hun Sen shut down any football bet places including Combo Six to restore the social security to the country. it’s seem from the time football bet business was taken down the crime rate in Cambodia were also reduce, even though the main business was closed down but there some hidden places, you can call it “black bettors “is still going on around the corners but it doesn’t look like to create any threat to social security.

Now! 12 Jun 2010, FiFa world cup just started yesterday, will this event cause any security threat to Cambodia society like it used to be? some people said, its should be OK ! because since there are no places to bet like it used to be, and some said it will cause some troubles as it used to be since there are black bettors around the corners. i believe there won’t be a serious security threat to this country as it used to be, since Prime minister Hun Sen strictly ordered to arrest all bettors in sight but there will be a minor security threat especially to the night travelers.
