Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh yesterday signed an agreement with Indonasia’s Trade Minister Gita Wirawan to export 100,000 tons of milled rice to Indonasia every year, officials said.

although details- such as when the export will begin and where the rice will be sourced- have yet to be negotiated, the deal is considered an important, the deal is considered an important step toward reaching the government’s target of exporting 1 million tons of milled rice by 2015, said Thon Virak, general director of Green Trade Co,.a state-owned rice exporter.

Mass production of the Angkor Car—the first automobile to be designed and made in Cambodia-will be pushed back six months until December due to technical difficulties with starting the engine and opening the doors, the car’s designer said yesterday.

The Angkor Car, which runs on an electric engine and is just slightly longer than it is wide, was designed by Nhean Phaoek and will come with a starting price tag of $5,000 once it goes on sale.

Mr.Phaloek designed the miniature car for his family back in 2000, partnering with the local firm Heng Development in July 2010 to find investors for the project. In March 2011, his vision to mass-produce the car became a reality after inking a deal with Chau Leong Enterprise Group, a Hong Kong-based electical appliance firm, to build a factory in Takhmao City and produce the automobiles.

Mfone Vs Metfone

TWO of Cambodia’s largest mobile operators – Metfone and Mfone – have blocked calls between their networks this week over a disputed US$500,000 fee payment, an official said yesterday.

 

The Kingdom’s second- and third-largest mobile operators respectively, as measured by government data on subscriber numbers, have taken turns blocking services since Tuesday, according to Mfone Chief Financial Officer Naruemon Sriphan.

The dispute arose over more than $500,000 in interconnectivity charges which Mfone believes was owed to it by Vietnamese military-backed Metfone, she said.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) – Cambodian aviation authorites issued a vague apology Tuesday for confusion over flight disruptions, saying weather conditions did not force the closure of its two international airports as stated a day earlier.

“No flight disruption or weather-related delays (have) occurred. Any information stating differently is groundless,” the civil aviation authority and the airports‘ operator said in a joint statement.
